Success Stories

Francisco Sarmiento came to the Wenatchee Valley Literacy Council as a student in the late 1980's. After acquiring enough English language skills, he enrolled in the WVC Hispanic Orchard Employee Education Program and obtained a two year degree. He went on to graduate from WSU and became an instructor in the WVC Agriculture Department.
Francisco now also volunteers for the Wenatchee Valley Literacy Council as a member of the Advisory Board and as a tutor. On a weekly basis he tutors students many of whom are at lower English language skill levels. His personal success helps him connect with, and inspire students. As he explains: "I went through the same learning process, and I know what it takes to learn."
