Literacy Council of Chelan & Douglas Counties

Formally known as the Wenatchee Valley Literacy Council

The Literacy Council provides free one-on-one or small group tutoring to adults who need help with basic literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL). We are a volunteer-based, non-profit organization whose purpose is to actively promote basic literacy and to train volunteer tutors to teach adults to read, write, and speak English.

                            Fundraising and Special Projects:

We can use your help! Periodically throughout the year we have special events to raise awareness regarding literacy in the Wenatchee Valley area and to raise money to meet our expenses.

                            Becoming/referring a student

We begin by helping students determine their current level of literacy, then we partner each one with a tutor. Session schedules and emphasis are tailored to each student’s needs. It’s as simple as that! If you want to learn English or improve your English literacy skills, or if you know someone else who does, there are several ways to contact us,
