Check out this video created by the Neighborhood Food Project.
This national project was the inspiration for our local program.

Bryce Newberry, a news intern for NCW LIFE magazine, did an in-depth look into the North Central Washington Food Distribution Center and the fight against hunger in the Wenatchee Valley.  Watch it here.

Dear Neighbor,

In the past few years since the recession hit, the face of hunger is changing.  Food banks are now seeing people who have never had to ask for assistance before come through their lines. Locally, our food banks have experienced an increase in demand as much as 18%. One in four children in the Wenatchee area is hungry, as well as one in ten adults.

The North Central Washington Food Distribution Center, run by the Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council, distributes food to local area food banks and meal programs. They distributed over 1.5 million pounds of food last year, but still that is not enough to reach the high demand they’ve been experiencing.

Is there a way to reach out to your neighbors and help provide a steady supply of food for our food banks?

We think so!
We’ll give you this cool green bag, and all you do is add non-perishable food items. We’ll pick it up and deliver it to food banks. This program has been a great success in other Washington communities, as well as in Oregon and California.

Your simple gesture will make a difference.
